What is Rheumatoid Arthritis? Getting The Facts :- Pain – Drugs.
Rheumatoid arthritis Facts
Rheumatoid arthritis is a type of inflammatory disease. Generally, it causes intense pain and loss of motion in the particular joint it chooses to attack. In rheumatoid arthritis, the immune system plays a big part in the development of the disease. When a certain type of reaction triggers a rheumatoid arthritis attack, the result would be unbearable pain in and around the joints.
The Function Of Joints
A joint is the intersection of two human bones. The ends of these bones are covered with a smooth and durable substance called the cartilage. It is the cartilage that allows the bones to slide along each other without much friction. A cartilage is what functions as the device that cushions and absorbs the forces created during bone movements.
When a person suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, then a certain autoimmune defect would trigger an attack toward the healthy cells. And during such process, an enzyme is released to strike tissues. And the most common types of tissues attacked are the joints. Once this happens, the joints swell and become very painful.
Chronic
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease. Being such it would continue indefinitely and does not go away easily. And more often than not, flare-ups may even occur. It is also possible that rheumatoid arthritis affects all other organs present in the body. This makes it very critical for the disease to be diagnosed and treated in its early stages.
Rheumatoid arthritis can cause total disability. Even if this doesn't happen instantly, the mere fact that a patient may eventually lose his or her mobile functions should be enough to cause concern whenever the symptoms of this disease show.
The Most Commonly Affected Joints
The most common sign of rheumatoid arthritis would be swollen, tender, and stiff joints. The human body has a lot of joints. But the most common parts that rheumatoid arthritis hits are the hands, arms, leg, shoulders, and neck. Any pain that comes and goes felt around this area should be suitably consulted with a health expert.
People with rheumatoid arthritis also feel tired easily. A few minutes of physical exercise will cause them to catch their breath and require them to immediately rest their bodies. And sooner or later, even the simplest activity such as exercising, working, and doing their hobbies becomes rather difficult. People with rheumatoid arthritis prefer not to become physically active over time.
Most Susceptible Age Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is very common in people aged 20 to 45 years of age, although this disease could occur to a person regardless of his age. People who are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis can't do what a normal person does in terms of physical endeavors such as walking, running, swimming, and exercising. And because of this, the family and friends of the patients with rheumatoid arthritis becomes affected as well.
The diagnosis and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis should be done by a rheumatologist. A rheumatologist is a type of doctor that specializes in arthritis and all other diseases of the muscles, bones, and joints. But more often than not, they are not the only people who can help patients when it comes to treatment and prevention of the disease. Nurses, physical therapists, orthopedic surgeons, occupations therapists, psychologists, and even social workers are able to help as well.
Diagnostic Methods
The difficulty in diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis in its early stages would be the fact that there is not a single test for this type of disease. The fact that its symptom may also differ from one patient to another is one more reason why it becomes hard for doctors to assume that the disease a patient suffers from is in fact, rheumatoid arthritis. The mere diagnosis of this disease requires a series of tests in the form or x-rays, blood tests, CRP, and SED rate.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a serious disease. It is but important that the moment it is accurately diagnosed, the proper treatment procedures be carried out immediately. Doing so would counteract its harmful effects on the body.

Getting Better Care for Your Back Pain : Arthritis :- Drugs.
Care For Your Back
By: Stephanie Burke

One challenge with treating back pain is that there are not that many absolute rules. For example, a spinal condition that appears relatively minor can lead to severe pain, but a very serious condition can be barely painful at all. Similarly, some patients with a spinal condition will develop chronic pain, while others with the same condition will not.
To better deal with back pain, the spine medicine community is increasingly starting to appreciate that pain is a uniquely personal experience, and many treatments and types of back care don't work the same for all patients even when they have the same diagnosis.
Acute back pain (e.g. lasting less than three to six months) and chronic pain (e.g. lasting more than six months) have very different characteristics.
With acute back pain, the severity of pain directly correlates to the amount of damage. This type of back pain is a symptom of injured or diseased tissue, and after the underlying injury is healed then your pain goes away. For example, with a herniated disc, once the pressure on the nerve is alleviated the acute pain stops. As pain moves from the acute phase to the chronic stage, factors other than tissue damage and injury come more into play. These may include such things as ongoing "back pain" signals in the nervous system even though there is no tissue damage, as well as thoughts and emotions.
Everyone experiences and expresses back pain differently. Two people with the exact same injury will feel and show their back pain in unique ways. The new theories of back pain can now explain, on a physiological level, how and why people experience back pain differently. See also degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis or spondylolisthesis, which has not healed well. These conditions are due to a diagnosable anatomical problem. If the back pain has not subsided after a few weeks or months of conservative (nonoperative) treatments, then surgery may usually be considered.Neuropathic pain, in which all signs of injury are usually gone and the back pain that you feel is unrelated to an observable injury or condition. With this type of back pain, the nerves continue to send pain messages to the brain even though there is no ongoing tissue damage.

Figuring out the best approach to manage your condition can be very frustrating, as many treatments work well for some people but not for others. For example, epidural steroid injections are successful in alleviating pain for about half of patients who have them. Which half? Why? This is not known. But it is known that if one works for you for a painful flare-up, then it is more likely to work again if you need it in the future (and vice-versa). It is also known that you shouldn't have more than 3 injections in one year and that using fluoroscopy with the injection measurably helps the success rate.
So even though it is not always known if a treatment will work well for you, it is still a good idea to become as educated as you can on what to expect in terms of success rates and about what can positively influence the outcome (e.g. skills the spine specialist should have, technology available, etc.).
There are many highly effective surgical options to treat a variety of spinal conditions. Unfortunately, however, many people are disappointed to find that most or all of their pain is still around after surgery. While there are a number of reasons a particular surgery may fail to alleviate a patient's pain, probably the most prevalent reason is that the diagnosis was incorrect in the first place. Almost all spine surgery is elective – meaning that it is the patient's choice to have the surgery or not – so in this area it is very important to make an educated decision. Arthritis Pain Relief – Getting Help Now Naturally :- Prevention – Symptoms.
Natural arthritis pain Relief
I finally found relief from my arthritis pain, naturally, and you can too. arthritis sufferers today are always seeking relief from their arthritis pain.
As a result of arthritis, the bone just beneath the cartilage undergoes changes that lead to a bony overgrowth and the tissue that lines the joint can become inflamed, the ligaments can loosen and the associated muscles can weaken. Osteoarthritis affects joints in a different way depending on their location in the body, causing various arthritis symptoms. Unlike some other types of arthritis, like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis is not systemic – it does not spread throughout the entire body.
Proteoglycans are the large molecules that help to make up cartilage; they bond to water, which ensures a high-fluid content in cartilage. Cartilage contains a very high percentage of water, but it decreases with age. Cartilage is slippery tissue that coats the end of the bones.
Aging cells could be a factor in the development of arthritis and specifically osteoarthritis. Some possible causes of arthritis include lesser known: bleeding disorders, like hemophilia, that cause bleeding to occur in the joint; disorders such as avascular necrosis, that block the blood supply closest to the joint; and conditions like hemochromatosis, which causes iron to build-up in the joints. Genetic factors are thought to be involved in about 50 percent of osteoarthritis cases in the hands and hips and a somewhat lower percentage of cases in the knee.
A recent study in Great Britain touted the beneficial effects of cod liver oil in osteoarthritis; relieving pain and stiffness, and starting to reverse the destruction of joint cartilage within just 24 hours. Natural arthritis treatment is usually a better choice because it's non-invasive and usually anti-inflammatory if living foods are consumed. Nutrition experts say it takes a combination of supplements, not just one supplement to relieve arthritis pain, build cartilage, etc.
Make all-fruit smoothies using a base of two bananas, add one cup of frozen or fresh blueberries and mango chunks or substitute any other fruit and add an energy boost of two tablespoons of organic virgin coconut oil if you like; add one or two leaves of kale for even more super nutrition. If you really want to get rid of your arthritis pain forever it may take a radical change in your diet and an ongoing commitment to it. I started eating a diet of living foods (fruits, raw veggies, raw nuts and raw seeds) which caused my arthritis to disappear and therefore relieve me of arthritis pain; this should be tried for at least 30 days; it would eliminate any foods that might be culprits.
With natural arthritis treatments there will be fewer, if any, side effects or adverse reactions. An acid diet, that is any foods that are not alive, is considered to be inflammatory to the joints.
Dried Montmorency tart cherries seem to be helpful as a natural treatment for arthritis pain for many people. For a natural approach and natural treatment for arthritis make an appointment with a naturopathic doctor – a naturopath; ask around for referrals in your area.
Keep a basket of arthritic treatment aids for arthritic hands (Thera-putty, hand grips, Taiji Chinese chime balls, etc.) to use at bedtime or while watching television. Exercise is good for any joint affected by osteoarthritis. Fight arthritis through plenty of movement and exercise! Your body has 147 joints that are in motion every day of your life; keep them moving!
A good exercise routine is the key to beating arthritis and keeping arthritis pain at bay; so keep moving as much as possible. Stretching and warming up the joints should always be the first step in your exercise routine to make your joints more flexible, but be careful in the morning; you may need an hour or more of moving around first; you can start by moving your limbs around in your bed a few minutes before you get out of bed. Whatever you do, keep moving; don't sit when you can stand, don't stand when you can walk or walk in place.
drugs commonly used for arthritis pain can cause ulcers, heart disease, liver or kidney damage. Let your doctor and pharmacist know about any other drugs, herbs or other supplements you're taking, to ward off any bad or adverse drug reactions that might occur from the combining of different drugs or supplements. If you're planning to take any of the non-prescription NSAIDs for arthritis, make sure you understand what bad effects they can have on the stomach, liver and kidneys; discuss this with your family doctor or rheumatologist.
Knowing more about arthritis and osteoarthritis and how it works will ultimately help contribute to relief of your arthritis pain. And stopping the progression of arthritis as well as stopping your pain should be your number one goal. Once you understand the facts about arthritis and the possible causes and remedies and treatment approaches you can take, you'll be on your way to recovery and pain will go away forever.
